THE ANIME AND MANGA MALE TO FEMALE PROJECT AND ART GALLERY




Anime ( animation made or produced in Japan ) and manga ( comic books published in Japan ) have had a long history of having transgender characters incorporated into anime series and movies, and in manga stories. Many of the transgender anime characters have been anime boys who can change into anime girls. This section will have posts and comments that feature a particular character for each post, and pictures and descriptions about that anime or manga character. This Project and Art Gallery will have and be showing ONLY male to female anime and manga characters. Each character section will have---

* a description of the character
* a review of the anime series, movie, or manga story wherein they appear  
* pictures of what they looked like when they were perceived as a male
* if they go through a Henshin ( a Transformation Sequence ) to become an anime girl, or not, as well as a short video of such
* pictures of what they look like after the transition or Henshin to that of a teenage or young anime female
* links to a website where one can read about the character and their story
* links to a website where one can watch the anime series, movie, or read the manga

This will be an on-going project, pending time and availability for research and web design. It is my hope that those who view this Project and Art Gallery will be encouraged to attend to and proceed with their own transitions, if any, or to become an ally of transgender people.

MTF CHARACTER NO. 1

NAME: NITORI SHUICHI

ANIME OR MANGA SERIES: Wandering Son  anime and manga.
Shuichi Nitori (二鳥 修一 Nitori Shūichi) is the protagonist of Wandering Son. They were assigned male at birth (AMAB), but, throughout the series, shows an affinity for presenting as their correct gender of a young female. The manga follows Shuichi's life from fifth grade to when they head off to college. The anime follows Shuichi's life in a somewhat condensed form.

PERCEIVED MALE AT BIRTH:



HENSHIN ( TRANSFORMATION SEQUENCE ) : None---Shuichi has instituted a more traditional transition, where they somewhat frequently ( alone, or with friends Anna or Yoshino ) present as their correct gender of a young female out in public, and slowly, over a period of several years, develop and establish their authentic self for all to see.

MTF CHARACTER NO. 2

NAME: HAZUMU OSARAGI

ANIME OR MANGA SERIES: KashiMashi, Girl Meets Girl anime and manga
Hazumu was a shy boy who enjoyed gardening, collecting herbs, and long walks in the mountains. One day, after getting lost on Mt. Kashimayama, he wished upon a shooting star, which turned out to actually be a disabled, falling alien spaceship. Although he was hit by the falling ship and was killed, Hazumu was brought back to life, thanks to some body reconstruction by the aliens. However, the only 'instruction sheet for humans' that they had was for a teenage female. Now that he is a she, Hazumu stumbles back into their social life and relationships, only to find that the entire relationship landscape has changed.

PERCEIVED MALE AT BIRTH:





HENSHIN ( TRANSFORMATION SEQUENCE ): None---Hazumu was changed to a teenage female when they died in an accidental crash landing of an alien spaceship. The alien brought Hazumu back to life as a human, but the only guide to human anotomony the aliens had was for a human female. Thus, Hazumu was brought back to life as a female.

ANIME MTF CHARACTER NO. 3

NAME: NATSURU SENO

ANIME OR MANGA SERIES: Kampfer anime and manga
Natsuru Senō attends a high school that separates the campus into an all-boys side and an all-girls side. He has a crush on teenage beauty Kaede Sakura, who has a peculiar collection of Entrail Animals (臓物アニマル Zōmotsu Animaru, stuffed animals that are unique in that they all have hernias), and she gives him a stuffed tiger. One day Natsuru awakens and discovers he has turned into a girl. His stuffed tiger named Harakiri Tora also awakens, and tells him that he has been chosen as a Kämpfer (ケンプファー Kenpufā, German for "Fighter"). But Kampfers can only be female ! As a Kampfer, a female fighter, they must fight against other Kämpfers that are not part of her team, as indicated by a colored Bracelet of Oath (誓約の腕輪 Seiyaku no Udewa) now permanently attached to Seno's wrist. Seno's bracelet is blue, therefore she is a Blue Kampfer.

PERCEIVED MALE AT BIRTH:




HENSHIN ( TRANSFORMATION SEQUENCE ): Yes ! The Henshin is activated by the bracelet on Seno's wrist. Many times the Henshin is somewhat automatic, as when another Kampfer is physically close by. However, humans can, to some degree, learn how to control the Henshins so as to prevent embarrassing moments. ( Henshins are almost exclusively done by cis-females to 'power up', Henshins done by anime boys into anime girls are very rare ! )

MANGA MTF CHARACTER NO. 4

NAME: ANNIE ANDREWS ( formerly known as Tony Andrews )

MANGA SERIES: Wildflowers manga ( manga only )
It has been known from their earliest age that Mr. Andrew's child was discontent about their life. The child, born perceived as a male, was bullied mercilessly in school, and suffered much mental anguish. But a near death experience during adolescence brought the child to the inescapable reality that they must transition to their correct gender of a teenage girl, or die trying. Occurring over much of her teenage years, Annie's transition is not a pleasant experience. The manga deals with the hurt, pain, fear, and suffering that continuously bedevils Annie as she tries again and again to balance her need to be her authentic self, or to please the people around her. She is brought to the edge of death several times before she realizes her true nature, and the necessity of having the will to survive and live.
( The manga character of Annie Andrews is loosely based on the autobiographical life of her creator and author, AnneKrog. )

PERCEIVED MALE AT BIRTH:



HENSHIN ( TRANSFORMATION SEQUENCE ): Yes, but contingent upon a special circumstance. Annie became the lead singer for a heavy metal band called 'Dethtapis', and it was planned for her to sing dressed in a medieval maiden's outfit. However, on the night of her debut and first show, a disgruntled fan of another rock band beat Annie to a bloody pulp to prevent her from performing. But the horrific deed backfired, when Annie went ahead and sang on stage with the band nevertheless. Thus, a Rock Idol was born, called " The Bloody Maiden ". Annie now goes through a Henshin to become the Bloody Maiden every time that she sings and performs !







PRESENTING AND VALIDATED AS A MANGA GIRL: Annie's transition from ugly male to cute teenage female has been one of the 'survival of the fittest' kind of evolution, and that of 'two steps forward, one step back'. Most of her teenage years have been this up and down style transition, with slow but steady progress. Shown here are some of her progressive fashion styles and looks. However, since the manga is ongoing, Annie's fashion evolution will, no doubt, be ongoing.

ANIME MTF CHARACTER NO. 5

NAME: SOLAR / TAILRED ( AKA SOJI MITSUKA )

ANIME SERIES: Gonna be the Twin Tail
   The main protagonist is a gentle-natured male 15-year-old freshman of Yōgetsu Private Academy, who is obsessed with girls who wear the twintail hairstyle.
   One day, he encounters a mysterious beautiful young woman named Twoerle, who appears before him after coming from a parallel universe. In the midst of the chaos on Earth, Twoerle entrusts Soji with 'attribute power', and a battle maiden outfit called, " Tail Gear ", thus suddenly transforming him from a teenage boy, into an adolescent twin tail Warrior Girl, known as Tail Red.  Soji appears to be a Bigender character ( having a combination of male and female attributes ), as well as a Gender Fluid character ( personality changing back and forth between male and female ).

PERCEIVED MALE AT BIRTH:



HENSHIN ( TRANSFORMATION SEQUENCE ): Yes ! Soji has a red bracelet permanently attached to his wrist. He can control the time and place of his Henshin, so that he can transform into a girl on an 'as needed' basis.  During the Henshin, Soji physically changes their body from male to female, before they are outfitted with the Tail Gear battle maiden's suit. However, later in the series, he begins to loose control of the Henshin, and will transform into a girl even when sleeping, and finds it increasingly difficult to change from girl back to a boy.






When Soji goes through the Henshin, but does not access the Tail Gear battle maiden suit, she transitions to an ordinary teenage girl named Solar.
